Backpacking at Point Reyes National Seashore, December 20-21, 2014

This is the start of the holiday break for most schools. This will be a quick trip, leaving Saturday morning and returning by mid-Sunday afternoon.

200704Reyes_DSC00972What? backpacking in the winter? Yes, it’s a great way to escape the holiday chaos and get back to nature. We have done this the past two years and have had nice weather—warmer than PV. I even walked barefoot on the beach last year.  We will backpack into Coast Camp near Sculptured Beach, which has a really neat sea cave. It’s about 2 miles in and 3 miles out.

E-mail me if you want to go. Several Moose are on the list. We are limited to 25 people. First come, first served.

Here are some photos from a Cub Scout hike to Sculptured Beach.

Tunnels and sea stacks.

With the tide out, this sea cave had starfish and sea anemones on the walls.
