image002 The Troop 64 annual boating campout will be May 23-34.  We will be going to Lake Berryessa and have a campground reserved from May 22-25, Memorial weekend. There is fishing, inner tubing, and wake boarding.    We will have a large pontoon party boat Saturday and Sunday with a grill and water slide for the boys to hang out on.

The plan is to let them sleep on the boat Saturday night. This is a fun opportunity for scouts to camp and cook.

Please e-mail me if you can go, which days you would be there, and if you will be bringing or renting a boat. Ski boats, jet skis and fishing boats are available and can be reserved.  You can come up Friday evening to camp, or early Saturday or Sunday for boating and fun.

Christmas Tree Sales

xmass treeEvery year our troop helps the Kiwanis sell Christmas trees on the lot on El Camino just south of Galvez by the Stanford stadium.

Dominic gave a brief presentation on this to the boys at the Nov 12th meeting. All Scouts in the troop are expected to work at least one time slot.  You can sign up for one or more of the three-hour time slots:

Backpacking at Point Reyes National Seashore, December 20-21, 2014

This is the start of the holiday break for most schools. This will be a quick trip, leaving Saturday morning and returning by mid-Sunday afternoon.

200704Reyes_DSC00972What? backpacking in the winter? Yes, it’s a great way to escape the holiday chaos and get back to nature. We have done this the past two years and have had nice weather—warmer than PV. I even walked barefoot on the beach last year.  We will backpack into Coast Camp near Sculptured Beach, which has a really neat sea cave. It’s about 2 miles in and 3 miles out.

E-mail me if you want to go. Several Moose are on the list. We are limited to 25 people. First come, first served. (more…)

Troop 64 visits Tuolumne Meadows

img_1940Over 30 Troop 64 scouts and parents participated in a memorable trip to the beautiful high country in Yosemite National Park, September 19-21. We experienced some rain, hail, and sunshine, but kept mostly dry and temperatures were mild.

It was an exhilarating and challenging adventure that I am sure most of us  will remember for a long time.  I would like to thank Kirt for planning and organizing the trip and hike.

All of the campers completed the planned 10+ mile hike. Starting at Tuolumne Meadows Campground at 8600′  we took the trail to Elizabeth Lake, then we went cross country to the top of  the 10680′ pass near Unicorn Peak for lunch.  Another cross country trek brought us down and through a small canyon at about 10,000′ where we had to scramble over boulders to the top of another pass at about 10240′ overlooking Budd Lake from the south.  Our group then stalled for a few minutes reconnoitering a safe path down a steep 200′ wall on the north side of the pass.
